Consider including them as part of a balanced diet, combining with moderate exercise and you could have a potential recipe for success!

Clinical studies1,2,3 show that daily use of meal replacement shakes as part of a calorie restricted diet is proven effective for managing weight, along with moderate exercise, as recognised by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). According to EFSA, “substituting two daily meals of an energy restricted diet with meal replacement contributes to weight loss ” whilst “substituting one daily meal of an energy restricted diet with a meal replacement contributes to the maintenance of weight after weight loss”4, 5

Herbalife Nutrition has supported clinical research using variants of the Herbalife Nutrition Formula 1 Healthy meal replacement in university-affiliated research centres in countries around the world, including the United States6, Taiwan7,8, Korea9, Germany1, Russia10, China11, Mexico12 and India13.

What are meal replacement shakes?

Meal replacement shakes are high protein shakes, perfectly balanced with fibre, vitamins and minerals, fats. Protein-enriched shakes help maintain muscle mass during weight loss. Protein is also known to satisfy hunger control2,3,4,14,15,16. However, commonly used sources of protein might come with extra fat and calories. Therefore, substituting a meal of 500 calories, or more, with a meal replacement shake providing a bit more than 200 calories, reduces calories while providing the protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals the body needs without the extra unwanted calories fund in many foods. Physical activity and sleep can also influence behaviour that drives food choices17.

“Understanding how these biological, chemical, physical and social factors interact to determine food choices is critical to informing public health recommendations aimed at changing or improving food choices.”
